This
was followed by some fairly unpleasant experiences at my job (restructuring,
dismantling, project cancellations, etc.) that were enough to
force me to find another creative outlet outside of my day job.
In July of 1999 I made the decision to start researching how I
was going to get my film made.
Over the following months I continued to refine the script based
on feedback from my coverage, family and Bruin alums now working
in the industry like Gina Prince-Bythewood and Bridget Davis.
At the same time I continued corresponding with various independent
film producers who gave me valuable insight into the world of
indy filmmaking. At that time I was planning to shoot on 35mm
but one producer, Karen Criswell, suggested that I shoot on Digital
Video. My response was…"hmmm, I'll look into it" but I was thinking
to myself "That's not a profession format. Hell no!" So after
a few more months of research I discovered that I had a start
date for my 35mm production of The Kingston High - it was to be
"on a cold day in hell."
